V roce 1550 si Nostradamus začal svá proroctví zaznamenávat a v roce 1555 začal svá proroctví zveřejňovat.
Tentýž rok předpověděl svému králi, Jinřichu II, že zemře při nehodě na turnajovém klání. Jeho předpověď se vyplnila 4 roky poté.Nostradamovu slávu založilo následující proroctví:
na bitevním poli v jediné srážce
přes zlatou klec mu probodne oči
ze dvou ran jedna bude, poté zhyne krutou smrtí.
Zapsal si celkem 942 slavných proroctví, mimo jiné: předpověděl Napoleonův osud, americkou revoluci a americkou občanskou válku, události z dějin královského rodu v Anglii včetně abdikace Eduarda VIII, zavraždění Abrahama Lincolna, Johna Kennedyho i vládu ajatolláha Chomejního v Iránu. Předpověděl letecké cestování, výpravy do vesmíru i přistání na měsíci.
Nostradamus vkládal svá proroctví do čtyřveršů
Takhle popisuje Hitlera:
Zvířata, šílená hlady, poplují přes řeky,
většina bitevního pole bude proti Histeru.
V železné kleci bude tažen vůdce,
až Německo nebude poslouchat žádný zákon.
Vůdci z Fossana podřeže hrdlo muž,
jenž cvičil ohřae a křepeláky.
Vykonají ten čin lidé od Tarpejských skal,
až Saturn bude ve Lvu třináctého února.

To, co se noční tmou jiskřivě prodírá,
naději zažehne jak z rukou fakíra.

Hlupákové, mluvkové, vy běžte k svým,

Náhle pak světlo vzplane jak svíce,

Tím pohár se naplnil a duch jeho zajde.
